Sling Safety

Wearing your baby or child in a sling can be a wonderful experience, allowing you closeness, cuddles and convenience. However, it is important that slings are worn and adjusted correctly to keep your baby safe. It is particularly important that you pay attention to how your child is positioned, and how their position can impact on their airway. 
If the sling is not tight enough a baby may end up slumped in the carrier, or if the baby is put in a cradled position, their chin can be forced towards their chest, impeding their airway and their ability to breathe. 
In order to keep your baby safe, they should be worn high up on your body in an upright position, using a correctly sized sling which is tightly supporting your baby's back in order to prevent them from becoming slumped. Your baby's face should be visible at all times, and you should be able to fit at least two fingers width between their chin and their chest (this is particularly important when they fall asleep in the sling).
