Tutorial: Slip Knot Hip Carry

A slip knot hip carry (also known as a 'humble hammock'), is a really useful carry for both babies and toddlers. It only needs a size 1 (2.2m) or size 2 (2.7m) wrap, and because it uses a slip knot, it is very adjustable. Many people like this carry with a toddler who is enjoying walking, as you can take a short wrap out with you as a scarf, and quickly tie it into rebozo hip carry when little legs get tired.

I have created this tutorial with both a 0-3 month size demo doll, and my tall 2.5 year old toddler, to show how the carry looks with different size children. 

I am using a 2.12m size wrap, made by Oscha Slings, who actually sell this size as a shawl, but it can also make a great hip carry length!

Next Workshop....

The next workshop is Intermediate Back-Wrapping on Friday 22nd August, from 2-4pm, at the Blue Skies Centre and Play Cafe. We will be getting to grips with the Double Hammock carry, looking at a one-shouldered version that can be done with a shorter wrap, and then a full double hammock. There will be a variety of wraps for you to try out, plus weighted demo dolls to practise with. Some experience of back wrapping would be preferable, but if you're unsure, please get in touch. You need some experience of getting your child on your back (although there will be time to help tweak your technique, but we won't be going right back to the basics). If you can tie a basic ruck, but would like to learn different (and possibly more comfortable) ways to back wrap your child, then this workshop is for you! I finally have sorted out some dates for wrapping workshops in Cheltenham. I will be running the following workshops at Blue Skies Play Cafe, on the following dates:

Intermediate Back Wrapping: Friday 22nd August, 2-4pm
